What We Are
The International
Labor Communications Association, founded
in 1955, is the professional organization of
labor communicators in North America. ILCA
membership is open to national, regional, and
local union publications and to media
productions affiliated with the AFL-CIO and the
CLC, as well as to associate members not
affiliated with those bodies. The ILCA's
several hundred members produce publications
with a total circulation in the tens of
millions.
Who is the ILCA? The
ILCA is a professional support organization for
labor communicators. We work to strengthen and
expand labor print publications, websites, and
radio, television, and film productions by
providing resources, expertise, and networking
opportunities for labor communicators. The ILCA
works to encourage democratic labor media that
engages workers in an ongoing conversation.
How We Work: The ILCA is a
self-supporting, autonomous, nonprofit
organization governed by an Executive Council
comprised of a President, Secretary-Treasurer,
and 15 Vice Presidents. These officers are
elected by the membership and serve two-year
terms. The ILCA maintains an office and staff
in Washington, D.C., and holds meetings,
workshops, and conventions all over North
America. The ILCA is the only advocate for the
labor media in the labor movement and in the
community at large. We represent labor media at
conferences with national media reform groups,
and independent, 'mainstream', ethnic, and
community-based media. And we support issues
important to the labor media within the union
community.
